Welcome to my webpage. My name is Paula Elias and I have been carving since 1980. Most all of my carvings
are of animals, with the exception (so far) was 'Lady Liberty' carved from mahogany. Since moving to Bella Vista, Arkansas
I have increased my carving time and projects.
The 'American Bison' came into conception when I found a slab of black walnut cut from a burl. It incubated
in my mind for about a month before I ever started carving him. Once I saw the bison, I realized it could be nothing else.
The carving took
6 1/2 months of fairly regular carving. I and my husband Bill who is also a woodcarver, carried him
to carving sessions at Rose Tools in Hiwasse, Arkansas.
The 'American Bison' in its final form was birthed after 8 months of work and inspiration. He weighs approx.
30 pounds and measures 40"x48".
